A changing sport
The record spans several eras of fullbore shooting
- 1862
The first recorded Chancellors’ match used the long Enfield at 200, 500 and 600 yards.
- 1920
Chancellors’ moved to ten shots at each distance and a 1,200-point team maximum.
- 1946
The Chancellors’ record enters the modern Target Rifle era.
- 1963
The Humphry settled on its present 1,000, 1,100 and 1,200-yard course.

Cambridge won both Varsity matches in 2026
CURA regained the Humphry by 31 points and retained the Chancellors’ by 47. Ben Vary captained both teams.
