Welcome to CURA

Fullbore rifle shooting at Cambridge

CURA is Cambridge University’s Fullbore Rifle Club, primarily shooting at long range. Two Varsity matches are shot against Oxford over the summer vacation in the Target Rifle and Match Rifle disciplines, with many members achieving half-blue status each year.

We are an official sports club of the University of Cambridge, affiliated to the National Rifle Association of Great Britain and a registered charity (258396).

Membership is open to all, although basic competence at smallbore rifle shooting is required. Members can use the club’s rifles, jackets, mats and other equipment.

Location & training

Our home at Bisley

Training for new and returning members starts during the Easter vacation at the National Shooting Centre in Surrey. Members are coached to a competitive level in Target Rifle and Match Rifle by CURA alumni and friends, including national and Great Britain coaches.

At Bisley, we call the English VIII, clubhouse of the English Match Rifle National Team, our home.

Competitions

Varsity and national competition

CURA regularly wins both Varsity matches and competes nationally against other universities and clubs. Members are strongly encouraged to enter the NRA Imperial Meeting, including the Sovereign’s Prize.

Club members frequently represent their counties and countries. Alice Good (GM), captain in 2021–22, won HM The Queen’s Prize in 2022 after first picking up shooting with CURA.
