Easter Bisley 2024

Easter BIsley 2024

While many of our alumni and friends were in South Africa for the World Championships, CURA held the line in Bisley with our annual Easter Bisley training camp. With 23 members partaking, 17 of them new to the club, it was a grand affair with lots of shooting, plotting and shenanigans.

We kicked off the week on Stickledown, shooting match rifle at 1000-1200 yards. CURA gained many new backgunners, putatively stoked by our Captain’s insistence that it is the most fun shooting there is. While some people’s necks disagreed, about half our members took to shooting the gentlemanly way. Following the reloading of thousands of rounds of ammunition, we look forward to a strong CURA showing at the MR meetings this seaso

Two days and tons of cheese sandwiches later, we used the shooting-free Monday to assign target rifles and set up positions. All but 4 club rifles were in use the following days when we shot TR at both short and long range. While the sun occasionally blessed our efforts, the early Spring weather was also a perfect opportunity to practise our wet weather drills, and all our novices learned how to de-bed a rifle after a rainy day.

As the week drew to a close, it was time for the main event. Our Cap v Sec match saw two full VIIIs compete against each other at 300, 600 and 900 yards, in increasingly difficult wind conditions. Both teams put up good performances, but in the end it was the Captain’s team that prevailed. A special mention needs to go to Ho Lam Yiu, who, as a novice, got the second highest score of the match, just one point and two Vs behind our top-scoring Captain. All in all, it was a fantastic day with good, focussed shooting and a fun conclusion to a great Easter Bisley.

Many thanks to all our alumni and friends who came along to help, giving insightful talks, fixing positions and doing armouring work on our rifles. Especially with so many new members, it would not have been possible without you!

We look forward to building our strong squad over many matches and meetings in the coming months before the Imperial Meeting.
