Cambridge Cup 2023
Recent CURA alumnus Fergus Flanagan wins the Cambridge Cup 2023 and Russell Woodger of CURA wins the Notman student trophy of the meeting.
Congratulations to our recently graduated member Fergus Flanagan for winning his first Cambridge Cup!
Fergus is pictured here just after the end of the tie shoot. Unfortunately Fergus hadn’t considered that tie shooting could be a possibility, so had not brought enough ammo… as a result, the tie shoot’s course of fire (which was against Alex Cargill-Thompson, who incidentally was not actually in contention for the cup, having won it too many times!) was 1 sighting shot and 3 to count… a bit unusual! Fergus shot his 4 shots with a random array of ‘blow-offs’ he had going spare…
Fergus would also not actually have needed to compete in a tie shoot had he not made the boldest wind call of the entire day for his final shot to count (which didn’t go very well), meaning he ended on a 224 ex. 225, dropping his last to count…
Regardless, we are very proud of Fergus and know that this won’t be the only time this happens (both the winning and his impeccable organisation)!
Congratulations must also go to Russell Woodger, current TR and MR Vice Captain, for winning the Notman. This cup goes to the highest scoring student competitor of the meeting. Certain previous winners would like to apologise for its lack of engraving for the past few years and hope that Russell may find it in his heart to correct their mistakes before next years competition… Well done Russell!
